A

Automatic Wiring - Cognio's patented behavior in which Modules connect automatically based on where they are placed in a Signal Flow, removing the need to manually draw wires.

AV-Ops Center - Cloud service for remote monitoring and management of Cognio devices. Devices are claimed using their AV-Ops Center credentials, and an AV-Ops Center manager can claim devices in bulk. (Coming in Future Cognio DesignOps update.) https://app.xyte.io/auth/sign-up/symetrix

Channel -

Cognio - Family of products including Cognio Hardware and Software.

Cognio DesignOps - Name of the Design, Control and Operation software for Cognio.

Cognio OS - Operating System running on all Cognio Devices. Built upon a custom build of linux optimized for reliability, security and performance. Contains Core Cognio firmware elements. All Cognio Hardware devices run Cognio OS.

Cognio Platform - Hardware, Firmware, and Software platform upon which Cognio Products are built.

Composer - Design, Control and Operation software for previous generation of Symetrix DSPs.

Control Panel - Individual pages within a Control Panel Group

Control Panel Group - Group of Control Panel pages managed together

Control Screen - Refers to the hardware that displays a Control Panel Group. For example, the TC-Series are Control Screens that display Control Panel Groups in the Site file.

Design Mode - High level mode of DesignOps where the user designs their Site, Spaces, Signal Flows and Control Panel Groups.

Distributed Processing - Cognio's ability to share the processing for a single Space across multiple devices, and to run multiple independent Spaces on a single device. Lets a system scale by adding products rather than replacing them.

Driver - A file that lets Cognio control a 3rd Party Managed Device. Cognio drivers are written in Lua and use a consistent model for Dante and non-Dante devices. Drivers are downloaded from the Symetrix website and imported into the Toolkit to add to a Site.

Emulation - Running the core capabilities of Cognio OS inside DesignOps so a design can be operated, metered, and gain-staged entirely offline, without hardware. Unlike simulation, emulation runs the same processing the hardware would run.

Linked Control -

Managed Device - Dante or other device used in a Site that is NOT a Cognio Smart Device. These are often 3rd party (i.e. not from Symetrix) but there are also some Symetrix Managed Devies. Managed Devices often (but not always) have a Driver allowing advanced control of the device's functionality.

Modifier Panel - The panel on the right side of the interface that you open and close. It shows one or more headings (tabs), such as Properties and Controls, that let you view and adjust the selected element. Which headings appear depends on what is currently selected in the Workspace.

Module - A processing block added to a Signal Flow, such as an input, gain, EQ, compressor, matrix, or output. Many Modules support a configurable number of inputs and outputs.

Offline Devices - A virtual device that represents a yet to paired Online Device. This is used for designing systems without hardware.

Online Devices - A device on the network that can be seen by Cognio DesignOps. It is available for Pairing and Syncing.

Operating Mode Selector - Radio Button in the top right of the Navigation bar that allows selection between Design Mode and Operation Mode

Operation Mode - High level mode of DesignOps used to preview, operate, meter, and monitor a system. Supports offline Emulation (including the built-in signal generator and live meters) as well as live status and log monitoring when online.

Pairing - Linking a device in your design to a physical hardware unit discovered on the network, so the design controls real hardware. Each device shows a Pair button in Site View. Cognio can pair automatically when it finds a hardware unit that matches the device, or you can select a unit from the Toolkit. Unpairing disconnects the device from its hardware.

Patching - Routing any input to any output in software, rather than by fixed physical wiring. Patch sources can be physical inputs (such as USB and Dante channels) or virtual inputs (other Signals in the design), and patching can pass audio between Spaces.

Preset - A collection of module controls at a specific state that are stored and available for recall. Upon recall, the stored state is set for all of the included controls.

Properties Panel - One of the heading (tabs) available for selected items in the Modifier Panel. Properties typically contain configuration options that CANNOT be changed without resyncing.

Scripted Module -

Signal - An audio or control path within a Signal Flow. Signals connect Modules and can be routed via Software Patching to physical connectors or to other Signals, including in other Spaces. Signals can have one or more Channels.

Signal Flow - The per-Space view in which audio processing is designed by adding Modules and connecting them. Cognio's Automatic Wiring and Software Patching make signal flows fast to build and edit.

Site - The complete project for an installation, saved as a single site file. A Site contains one or more Spaces.

Smart Device - A Cognio product that runs Cognio OS and contributes processing to the system (for example, the C100, C20, C10, TC-Series, and W3C). Distinct from a Managed Device, which does not add its own DSP.

Space - A way to group related but semi independent parts of the processing into smaller manageable blocks. Signals can be passed between Spaces as needed. They are typically used to organize a Site into rooms, zones, or other physical or logical groupings. They can be synchronized, (aka brought online or offline) independently.

Spacing Buttons - Buttons that apear in between signals on a module. Clicking increases or decreases the spacing between signals in the module. For some modules this can be done indepoendantly for module inputs and outputs, while for other modules input and output spacing is kept in sync.

Sync - Pushing a Space's design to its paired hardware so the hardware runs what is shown in the design. A Space's Sync button shows whether the hardware matches the design (synced), has not yet received it (unsynced), or has fallen behind a design change (needs resync). Syncing requires every device in the Space to be paired and connected.

Theme - A reusable definition of how Control Panel controls look, kept separate from how they work (the Design tab versus the Function tab). Themes are created in the Custom Control Theme manager, can be applied to many controls at once, and can be exported, imported, and reused from Site to Site.

Toolkit - Left panel that lists the items you can add to the current view, such as the Modules available in a Signal Flow or the controls available in a Control Panel Group.

Unspecified Cognio Device - A Space that has not yet been assigned to a specific piece of Cognio hardware. Lets you design before committing to, or while changing, the hardware that will run the Space.
