A/D D/A Conversion

The Symetrix Cognio analog input and output circuitry has been designed with both a high degree of flexibility and maximum audio quality in mind. Fully balanced euroblock connections are used throughout and high quality 24 bit sigma-delta converters are used for both inputs and outputs, allowing a dynamic range of approximately 115dB (A-weighted) at both inputs and outputs in the Symetrix Edge and Radius units.

Following the volume control chip, the signal is digitized by the ADC. An advanced 24-bit 128x over sampling sigma-delta converter is used. The chip uses and enhanced multi-bit architecture, which achieves wider dynamic range, but still keeps much the same superior distortion characteristics as conventional single-bit ADCs. Following the ADC, the signal is kept in the digital domain for all processing, until it is sent out the analog output section. There is > 108dB @ 1kHz, +24 dBu channel separation (A/D/A), with unit latency of 0.88mS, inputs routed to outputs (A/D/A).
